Agriculture Census begins in districts

RAJSHAHI, June 9, 2019 (BSS)- The Agriculture Census-2019 has begun across the country today as designed by Bangladesh Bureau Statistics (BBS) to collect agricultural data from grassroots level to know about the actual scenario of the country’s agriculture and economy.

The Census, sixth of its kind in the country, will continue till June 20 with the slogan “Krishi Shumari Shofol Kori, Somriddho Bangladesh Gori”.

During the Census, the enumerators will collect detailed information related to agriculture, livestock, agriculture machinery, food security, fisheries and forest.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton inaugurated the Census at a function at city corporation office through filling up his own form.

Joint Director in Divisional Statistics Office SM Anisuzzaman and Assistant Director Asif Iqbal and Upazila Officer Shariful Islam were present on the occasion.

Mayor Liton urged the BBS officials and all others concerned to remain careful during collection of the information for making the census a total success to make useful.

In Jamalpur, District Statistic Office appointed 2542 information collectors and 416 supervisors to collect data on agriculture sector.

Beside one Divisional Census co-ordinator, one District Census coordinator, seven Upazila Census coordinators and 34 zonal officers were also appointed for the census.

In Gaibandha district statistics office of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) brought out a rally from the District Collectorate Builidng this morning. Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdul Matin inaugurated the rally.

The DC sought whole hearted cooperation of all to make the census a grand success.

In Netrakona State minister for fisheries and livestock Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru inaugurated the Census at a function at Deputy Commissioner’s conference room.

In the district, some 2158 data collectors have been appointed to collect data on farmers, production of food-grains, fisheries, live stocks and poultries.

They also collect data on cultivation methods, agriculture technologies, agricultural machineries, size of agricultural lands, size of agricultural households and forests in the urban and rural areas across the district.
