Red carpet rolled out as President reaches New Delhi

NEW DELHI, India, May 29, 2019 (BSS) – A red carpet was rolled out to welcome President M Abdul Hamid here this afternoon.

A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying the President and his entourage members, landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport, at about 7:30 pm (local time).

The head of the state arrived India on a three-day visit to join the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India for a second consecutive term.

On his arrival at the airport, the President was received by High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India Syed Moazzem Ali, Secretary of the ministry of External Affairs of India T.S. Tirumurti, High Commissioner of India in Dhaka Riva Ganguly Das and concerned officials of Indian High Commission to Bangladesh.

Earlier, the President left Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport for India by a VVIP flight (BG-1513) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited at 5:45 pm.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, cabinet secretary, chiefs of the three services, the dean of the diplomatic corps and high civil and military officials were present at the airport to see the President off.

President’s wife Rashida Khanam and Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, among others, are accompanying Abdul Hamid.

During the 3-day visit, Bangladesh President will also pay a courtesy call on his Indian counterpart Ram Nath Kovind.

The Indian President will administer the Oath of Office and Secrecy to the Prime Minister and other members of Union Council of Ministers on May 30 at 7pm at Rashtrapati Bhavan, according to a statement issued by Indian President’s Secretariat earlier.

Kovind has appointed Narendra Modi as Prime Minister after the landslide victory of BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the recently concluded India’s national election.

Modi was appointed as the Prime Minister for a second consecutive term soon after the NDA leaders on Saturday elected Modi as their leader in the parliament, according to official sources.
