Tight security arrangements for peaceful Eid celebration

DHAKA, May 26, 2019 (BSS) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary today asked the law enforcement agencies to strengthen their security across the country for peaceful and smooth celebration of the Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims.

“You all (law enforcement agencies) should take tight security measures to ensure foolproof security for peaceful and smooth celebration of the Eid,” Patwary said.

The IGP instructed the law enforcement agencies to discharge their duties wearing both -plain clothes as well as uniform- at markets and shopping malls so that common people can safely enjoy their Eid-shopping during the current period of time.

He advised the market committee to set up their own security system including recruiting volunteers, installing CCTV and archways (if necessary), hand metal detectors in the large markets and shopping malls.

He asked the concern law enforces to follow the ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy to stop the extortion on roads and highways in the country.

“They (police) should be vigilant to avert any untoward incidents by securing the residential areas, banks and financial institutions and gold shops during the Eid vacations,” he said.

The IGP was giving these directives from the police headquarters through a video conferences to all metropolitan and range police officers.

He directed to conduct nation-wide operations for the prevention of drug trafficking, counterfeit money, illegal weapons recovery and human trafficking.

Ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, IGP also instructed the police personnel to ensure safety at the National Eidgah and other main eidgahs at Sholakia of Kishoreganj, Gor-e-Shahid Moydan of Dinajpur and all the central Eid Jamaat at the division and district levels.

Referring to success of coordinated security measures during the holy month of Ramadan, he said, “No significant crime has taken place so far due to coordinated security arrangements during the Ramadan.”

High officials of law enforcement agencies were present during the video conference.
