DHAKA, April 5, 2018 (BSS) – The High Court today rejected an appeal challenging the legality of the cases filed by Anti-Corporation Commission (ACC) over irregularities in allocation of 18 abandoned government residences during the BNP-Jamaat regime.
A HC bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the order rejecting the appeal filed by the then Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) officer Kazi Reazul Monir.
Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud took part in the hearing for the former RAJUK officer while lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan for ACC.
After the court order, there is no bar now to run the case against former BNP-Jamaat alliance government’s housing and public works minister Mirza Abbas and 11 other accused, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam told BSS.
He said the cases were filed during the previous caretaker government tenure. But the proceedings of the cases were stayed by a HC rule, Alam added.
In 2007, the ACC filed the cases against 12 persons including Mirza Abbas for irregularities in allocating 18 abandoned residences of the government by selling those at unusual lower prices.
