Experts stress on use of IS units internationally

RANGPUR, May 20, 2019 (BSS) – Experts at a discussion today stressed on smooth use of the International System (IS) of Units worldwide in the pretext of the present globalised free market economic system to ensure coherent
measurement system.

They put importance on use of the IS units in every country to further
strengthen scientific innovation, discovery, industrial manufacturing,
international trade, quality of all products including foods and medicines,
improve living standard and protection of environment.

Divisional office of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI)
organised the event at Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) to
observe the World Metrology Day-2019 with the theme of ‘International System
of Units – Fundamentally Better.’

Divisional Director (Joint Secretary) of the Local Government Division Md.
Zakir Hossain attended the event as the chief guest with Acting Deputy
Commissioner Ruhul Amin Mian in the chair.

Deputy Director (Physical) and Chief at Rangpur divisional office of BSTI
Engineer MA Hannan delivered welcome speech narrating goals, objectives and
global importance of observance of the day.

Associate Professor of the Department of Physics of Begum Rokeya
University Dr. Md. Al Helal delivered his keynote presentation narrating
history of emergence of the International System of Units and importance of
its smooth use worldwide as expert guest.

President of RCCI and noted industrialist Alhaj Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury
Titu addressed the discussion as special guest.

They said the SI units are based on a set of definitions each linked to the
laws of physics and have advantage of being able to embrace further
improvement in measurement, science and technology to meet needs of future
users for many years to come.

“The national metrology institutes all over the world, like BSTI in
Bangladesh, continually advance measurement science by developing and
validating new measurement techniques at whatever level of sophistication is
needed,” he added.

He called upon all concerned to come forward in implementing the
international methods of units in all areas of trade and commerce as well as
in intergovernmental and national organisations for betterment of the
humanity s a whole.
