Dissemination meeting on breastfeeding held in Khulna
KHULNA, May 14, 2019 (BSS) – A dissemination meeting on ‘Breast-Milk
Substitutes, Infant Foods, Commercially Manufactured Complementary Foods and
the Accessories Thereof ( Regulation of Marketing) Act 2013’ and its rules
was held here today.
Bangladesh Breast Feeding Foundation organised the meeting in the
conference room of Khulna Scholl Health Clinic with the support of National
Nutrition Services and the Institution of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN).
Civil Surgeon of Khulna Dr ASM Abdur Razzak chaired the meeting while
Deputy Director of the Department of Local Govt Division Ishrat Jahan was
present as chief guest.
Information Officer of Khulna regional office M Javed Iqbal, Deputy
Director of Family Planning Department Md Abdul Alim and Deputy Civil Surgeon
Dr Md Atiar Rahman were present at the meeting.
At the meeting the speakers emphasized on giving homemade food to children.
They suggested all parents to exclusively breastfeed their children for the
first six months after birth.
They also stressed to build a social movement against unsafe infant foods
which are available inthe market. They said the media can play a vital role
to create awareness among people, including professionals regarding the
‘Breast Milk Substitutes (BMS) Act 2013’.
A paper was presented by the coordinator of Bangladesh Brest Feeding
Foundation (BBF) Sujit Kumar at the meeting.
