Country’s communal harmony must be protected: Abdullah

DHAKA, May 12, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Religious Affairs Advocate
Sheikh Md Abdullah today said communal harmony across the country will be
protected at any cost.

“Communal harmony is a desired subject in the current world while Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina is committed to maintain communal harmony in the
country. As per the premier’s directives, we will protect it with the support
of all,” he said.

Abdullah was addressing the 83rd meeting of Buddhist Religious Welfare
Trust (BRWT) at the Religious Affairs Ministry’s conference room in the
Secretariat here, said a ministry press release.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had laid the
foundation stone of non-communal Bangladesh by incorporating the principle of
secularism in the country’s constitution, he said, adding Bangladesh is now
being built as an ideal country of communal harmony under the leadership of
his (Bangabandhu’s) daughter.

BRWT Vice-Chairman and State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md
Mahbub Ali said the government wants to build Bangladesh as a civilized
country by ensuring welfare and security of the minor religious communities.

“We are working to build the 2041’s developed country, declared by the
Prime Minister, by establishing communal harmony in the country,” he added.

The meeting decided to distribute the grant of Prime Minister’s fund
equally among the 2,085 registered temples across the country, marking the
Buddha Purnima.

BRWT Trustee Basanti Chakma, MP, and its Vice-Chairman Supta Voshon Barua
were present at the meeting, among others.
