7,484 hectares to be brought under Aus paddy cultivation
JAMALPUR, May 11, 2019 (BSS)- Department of Agricultural Extension(DAE)
has targeted to produce 20,010 tonnes of Aus rice on 7484 hectares of land in
the district in the current season.
According to DAE office sources 874 hectares of land with a production
target of 2406.5 metric tonnes rice will be brought under Aus cultivation in
Jamalpur Sadar Upazila.
Some 143 hectares would be brought under Aus paddy cultivation with a
production target of 390.8 tonnes in Sarishabari, 1166 hectares with a
production target of 3195.5 tonnes in Melandaha, 1526 hectares with a
production target of 4064.5 tonnes in Islampur, 1648 hectares with a
production target of 4273 tonnes in Dewanganj, 865 hectares with a production
target of 2354.5 tonnes in Madarganj and 1265 with a production target of
3319.5 metric tonnes in Bakshiganj Upazila.
According to DAE office farmers already prepared Aus seed bed on 420.25
hectares of land. The office said agriculture department is encouraging
farmers for Aus cultivation in the district as it requires less fertilizer
and less irrigation.
Md Aminul Islam, an official of DAE, said necessary agri-inputs
including seeds and fertilizer have been distributed among the small and
marginal farmers in the district.
