Shamima stars as Abahani register 4-wicket win in women’s premier cricket

DHAKA, May 10, 2019 (BSS)-A magnificent batting display by opener Shamima Sultana helped Abahani Limited to register a four-wicket victory over Bangladesh Ansar and VDP team in the Premier Division Women’s Cricket League held on Friday at Bangladesh Krira Shikka Prothistan (BKSP) ground no 3 in Savar.

Opted to bat first after winning the toss, Ansar and VDP, despite two polish half centuries by Panna Ghosh (51) and Shahnaj Parveen (50), were dismissed at a small total of 188 for all in allotted 50 overs.

Masuma Akter Shapla was the other notable scorer for Ansar with 28 runs.

Sandiha Islam Asha was the pick of Abahani bowler as she claimed three Ansar’s wickets conceding 26 runs. She was well supported by Sripali Shiromala who bagged two for 48.

In reply, Abahani reached the target for the loss of six wickets with five balls to spare.

Opener Shamima Sultana led from the front with impressive 44 runs followed by Babita Meena (38), Sharmin Sultana (23) and Taj Nehar 23 n.o).

Tithi Rani Sarkar was the most successful bowler as he took two Abahani’s wickets giving away 31 runs.

Shamima Sultana of Abahani Limited was named the player of the match for her impressive batting performance.

In the day’s other match, Farzana Haque Pinky scored a brilliant unbeaten ton saw Rupali Bank Krira Parishad to earn a 22-run victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited at BKSP ground no 4.

Favored by coin, Rupali Bank posted a competitive total of 225 for 8 from their stipulated 50 overs.

Pinky composed a magnificent knock of 110-off 126 balls laced with 10 boundaries and two over boundaries to remain unbeaten till the end of the innings.

Disha Kasai was the pick of Mohammedan bowler as she hauled three Rupali Bank wickets conceding 48 runs.

Chasing a winning target of 226 runs set by Rupali Bank, Mohammedan found the chase stiff and eventually restricted at 203 for 9 in 50 overs.

Disha Kasai, after her impressive bowling spells, was also shine with bat as she top scored 57 runs.

Besides, Nuzhat Tasnia Tumpa (29), Ritu Moni (26) and Salma Khatun (24) contributed for their side.

Shuktra Rahman claimed three Mohammedan’s wickets giving away 28 runs.

Farzana Haque Pinky of Rupali Bank was named the player of the match for her brilliant hundred.
