Technical education stressed to make country self-reliant

RAJSHAHI, March 23, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a meeting said there is no alternative to technical and vocational education to enrich the sector of skilled human resources so that the country can become self-reliant.

They also observed that importance of the education is irreparable towards poverty reduction, self-employment creation, self-employment initiative development and productivity growth.

The observation came at a press-briefing titled “Achievement of 20 percent enrolment to Technical Education by 2020” at a city restaurant yesterday.

Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) and Department of Technical Education jointly organised the briefing.

Chairman of Rajshahi Education Board Prof Abul Kalam Azad and Divisional Deputy Director of Department of Secondary and Higher Education Dr Shormin Ferdous Chowdhury addressed the meeting as the chief and special guests respectively with Director (Curriculum) of BTEB Md Akteruzzaman in the chair.

Prof Kalam Azad mentioned that there is no way but to build skilled human resources to make the country self-reliant besides economic emancipation.

“We have no way but to generate more technically and technologically sound women to meet the social demands as it is being increased gradually,” he added.

Director of BTEB Modasser Ali, Deputy Director Shamsul Alam, Principal of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute Engineer Farid Uddin and Principal of Rajshahi Mohila Polytechnic Institute Omor Faruk also spoke.

The speakers revealed that expansion of technical and vocational education and training can be the effective means of eradicating unemployment problems.

They viewed technical education for the unemployed youths both male and female is very important for substantial and sustainable growth of national economy.
