Zillur Raman’s death anniversary observed

DHAKA, Mar 20, 2018 (BSS)- The fifth death anniversary of former President Zillur Rahman, a veteran politician, a language movement hero, an organiser of the Liberation War and one of the close associates of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed today.

Wreaths were placed at Banani grave of the former President while milad mahfil and Quran Khwani were held, special munajats were offered and discussions were arranged across the country marking the day.

Awami League paid rich tribute to the former leader of the party by placing a wreath at his grave.

Awami League general secretary and Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, its organising secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and office secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap were, among others, present on the occasion.

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organised a memorial meeting at Jatiya Press Club with Food Minister Qamrul Islam in the chair.

Speaker at the meeting recalled the contribution of Zillur Rahman to the country and his party with profound respect.

Zillur Rahman died of old-age complications at a Singapore hospital on March 20, 2013.

He started his political career as a volunteer of Awami League and was inducted as the country’s 19th president on February 12, 2009.

The veteran politician discharged his responsibilities as general secretary of Awami League for 12 years in five different terms.
