Ramu is the best example of religious harmony: Abdullah

COX’S BAZAR, April 22, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Religious Affairs
Alhaj Advocate Sheikh Md Abdullah today said that the Ramu locality of Cox’s
Bazar is the best example of non-communal Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of
the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and Muslims have been living together in
the Ramu locality of Cox’s Bazar for thousand years, which is a unique
example of religious harmony for not only Bangladesh but also for the whole
world,” he said.

The state minister was addressing an inter-religions meeting on the
premises of Jagatjyoti Shisu Sadan in Ramu.

Speaking as the chief guest, Abdullah said the emperor of the Maurya
Dynasty Ashoka established Rangkot Bonasryam Mohabihar here in 268 BCE, while
Sri Ram Chandra set up Sri Sri Ram Chandra Kutir in Ramu in 2,800 BCE.

Besides, he said, many religious establishments of Muslims and Christians
were built in the Ramu locality hundreds of years ago.

Abdullah said he was really impressed by the religious harmony and
attitude of cooperation the people of Ramu have been practicing for long.

He assured the local community of providing all-out support to them for
development and repair of religious institutions, and maintaining religious
harmony in Ramu.

Basonti Chakma, MP; Jahir Ahmed additional secretary of the Religious
Affairs Ministry and local religious leaders also spoke at the meeting.

Later, Abdullah visited the historic Ramu Buddha Bihar.
