Krishak League’s 47th founding anniversary tomorrow

DHAKA, April 18, 2019 (BSS) – The 47th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Krishak League (BKL) will be observed tomorrow across the country in a befitting manner.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today issued a massage, greeting the BKL leaders, activists and all farmers marking the founding anniversary.

To mark the day, BKL leaders and workers will pay homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Bangabandhu Bhaban on 32 Dhanmondi Road at 9am tomorrow.

On the eve of the day, Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recalled the deaths of 18 farmers and their family members, who were killed in 1995, during the regime of the then BNP government, for staging protests against the mismanagement and corruption in distribution of agro-inputs, including fertilizer.

After the independence, the Premier said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman attached the highest priority to agriculture development to rebuild a war-ravaged country.

The present government is working relentlessly for building a developed and prosperous country in line with the policy adopted by the Father of the Nation, the PM added.

“We have ensured fair prices of the agricultural products along with farm mechanization, agricultural diversification and development of market management,” Sheikh Hasina said.

Describing the initiatives which have been taken by the government for development of the agriculture sector for the last nine years as ‘epoch-making’, she said the government has taken different steps for the overall welfare of farmers.

“The government has distributed agriculture input cards among the farmers across the country,” the Prime Minister said, adding that even bank account has been opened for the farmers with an amount of Taka 10 only.

Awami League President hoped that the BKL leaders and activists would play their due roles to expedite the country’s ongoing development as Bangladesh will attain a middle income status by 2021 and a developed and prosperous one by 2041.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had founded the Bangladesh Krishak League on April 19 in 1972.

Besides, a discussion meeting will also be held at the party office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital at 2pm on Saturday.

Acting General Secretary of the ruling Awami League Mahbub-Ul Alam Hanif will spoke as the chief guest at the programme.
