Enforcement of CRP law to protect public health stressed

RANGPUR, March 16, 2018 (BSS) – Officials at a post-rally discussion here have laid emphasis on strict enforcement of the Consumers’ Rights Protection (CRP) law to protect consumers’ rights for saving public health from food adulteration and health hazards.

They came up with the observation at the discussion held in the conference room of the divisional commissioner in observance of the World Consumers Rights Day-2018 on Thursday afternoon.

The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection, district administration and Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), jointly chalked out programmes, including rally and discussion, to observe the day.

Earlier, a rally led by Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed and Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Khondker Golam Faruk, was brought out on the streets with participation of CAB members, officials, leaders of different business organisations, civil society members and local elite.

Later, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Minu Sheel presided over the post-rally discussion.

Acting president of district Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its Organising Secretary Motahar Hossain Mandal Mowla, vice-president of city AL Shah Md Nabiullah Panna, treasurer of district unit of CAB Rafikul Islam, addressed.

Divisional Deputy Director of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection Khondker Mohammad Nurul Amin delivered the keynote speech narrating various aspects of the CRP law and steps taken by the government for its enforcement.

He also discussed about the departmental activities being conducted for protection of the rights of the consumers.

Taking part in the open discussion, the speakers stressed enhancing public awareness along with strict enforcement of the CRP law to protect the consumers’ rights for saving public health from food poisoning, food adulteration and health hazards.

Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed asked the business community people to become aware about severe consequences of supply and sale of adulterated foods and ensure state control for making the market free from deception to ensure a healthy atmosphere.

In her concluding speech, Minu Sheel called upon all concerned for adopting effective measures to stop supply of adulterated foods to the local markets for protecting consumers’ rights, public health and saving human lives.
