Nurturing rich Bengali culture for peaceful society stressed

RANGPUR, April 14, 2019 (BSS) – Academics at a discussion today laid importance on nurturing rich Bengali culture and festivities and possessing those in spirit of the War of Liberation to establish a secular, peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh.

They expressed the view at the post- ‘Mangal Shobhayatra’ brief discussion organised by the authority of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) on the campus to welcome ‘Pahela Boishakh’, the first day of Bengali New Year- 1426.

Vice-chancellor of BRUR Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah attended the discussion as the chief guest with Convener of the ‘Pahela Baishakh Observance Committee’ Professor Dr. Md. Morshed Hossain in the chair.

Convener of the ‘Pahela Baishakh Observance Committee’ Professor Dr Parimal Chandra Barman presided over the function moderated by its Member-secretary Md. Atiur Rahman.

Provost of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall of the university Professor Dr. Sarifa Salowa Dina, Provost of Shaheed Mukhtar Elahi Hall Md. Ferdous Rahman, Provost of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall Tabiur Rahman and Registrar Colonel (Retd) Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal were present as special guests.

The colourful celebrations began with musical programmes at 9 am on the campus followed by bringing out of ‘Mongol Shobhayatra’, discussion, sports competitions, cultural functions and distribution of prizes.

Participated by hundreds of students, teachers, officials and employees of the university wearing traditional dresses, the ‘Mongol Shobhayatra’ was bought out on the campus and adjoining areas to welcome ‘Pahela Boishakh.’ The students of the university rendered Bengali year welcoming song `Esho Hey Baishakh, Esho Esho’ to welcome ‘Pahela Baishakh’ and Bengali drum dances and took part in rural sports competitions

They also rendered traditional dances, ‘Baishakhi’ songs, ‘Palli Geeti’, ‘Baul, ‘Lalon Geeti’, ‘Rabindra Sangeet’, Nazrul Geeti’, ‘Jari’, ‘Sari, ‘Bhatiali’ and folk songs in the cultural function.

The Vice-chancellor inaugurated a Baishakhi Fair on the campus where students of different departments set up stalls displaying locally produced handicrafts and traditional Baishakhi food items and sold those to visitors.

The speakers said celebrations of various Bangalee festivities are inseparably associated with rich Bengali culture, tradition and heritage and way of thinking of common people of the country for centuries.

The chief guest stressed on nurturing Bengali culture to establish a peaceful society free from drug, militancy and terrorism for paving a stronger foundation on way to build a developed Bangladesh by 2041.
