Media is important for bilateral ties: Indian envoy
DHAKA, April 13, 2019 (BSS) – Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das today said increase in linkages between the media of India and Bangladesh is an important element in the overall growth of bilateral relations.
“IIMC Alumni Association Bangladesh can play an important role in taking this relationship to newer heights,” she told the annual alumni meet-2019 at the Jatiya Press Club here.
The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Alumni Association, Bangladesh organized the meet.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, lawmaker Ushim Kumar Ukil, President of Central IIMC Alumni Association Prasad Sanyal and Vice President of IIMC Alumni Association, Bangladesh Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, among others, addressed the alumni meet chaired by President of IIMC Alumni Association, Bangladesh Ihsanul Karim.
Riva Ganguly said, “Both our countries have vibrant print and electronic media. The importance of media in shaping the opinion and psyche of the country cannot be underestimated.”
“It is imperative that for our shared history and common heritage, our linguistic and cultural ties, the passion we share for each other’s music, literature and arts, there should be more engagement between the media of the countries,” she added.
Khalid said, “Relations between Bangladesh and India are written with blood… Nearly 12,000 Indian soldiers embraced martyrdom during our War of Liberation. India sheltered over one crore Bangladeshi people at that time.”
IIMC Alumni Association, Bangladesh could be a very effective platform of journalists of the two countries for strengthening the existing excellent relationship for development of both Bangladesh and India.
Ihsanul Karim said it was not easy to ensure such wonderful relations between the two countries, but it was possible due to pragmatic and dynamic leadership of Sheikh Hasina from the part of Bangladesh and successive leaders from India, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
