UNDP’s Mukerjee calls on JS Speaker

DHAKA, April 11, 2019 (BSS) – Resident Representative of the UNDP to
Bangladesh Sudipto Mukerjee today paid a courtesy call on Jatiya Sangsad (JS)
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at her office in the JS Bhaban here.

During the meeting, they discussed different aspects of involving members
of parliament (MPs) to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said
a press release.

Dr Shirin said continuation of the UNDP’s ongoing cooperation and support
to increase skills and capacity of the MPs is appreciable.

The MPs can monitor the activities of the executive division of the
government through parliamentary standing committees and gather information
about different ministries’ steps taken for achieving SDGs, she said.

In the meeting, Mukerjee explained different aspect of the UNDP’s
proposed workshop and training programmes on involving the MPs with the SDGs.

He assured the Speaker of working with JS to increase the capacity of
female lawmakers.
