4 held at Tongi with drug worth of Taka 1.5 cr

GAZIPUR, April 11, 2019 (BSS) – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested four alleged drag paddlers, including a fake journalist couple, with huge cash and drugs worth Taka 1.5 crore from Tongi Bazar here.

The arrested were identified as Rubel Ahmed, 39, fake journalist Md Bashir Ahmed, 28, Bashir’s wife Mst Jannatul Ferdous Riba, 19, and Md Anisur Rahman,21.

On a tip-off, a team of RAB-1 (Uttara) arrested them at 7:30pm on Wednesday from in front of Razzak Plaza on Anarkoli road at Tongi Bazar when they were staying there for peddling drugs, commanding officer of RAB-1 Md Sarwar Bin Kashem told BSS this afternoon.

The RAB personnel seized cash Taka 8,34,540, huge amount of drugs, six mobile phones, a passport, a bank cheque and a fake ID card of a online newspaper from their possession, he said.

Bashir used to introduce him as a reporter of an online portal asiannews24.com, the RAB official said, adding that using his identity of journalist, he (Bashir) used to reach the bulk of drugs to Raju in Khulna taking those from Rubel.

According to RAB sources, the four arrestees have confessed their involvement in drug business in an interrogation. Process is underway for filing a case against them under the narcotic law with the Tongi West Police Station, the sources added.
