Dhaka city bus service to be brought under 6 companies

DHAKA, April 10, 2019 (BSS) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon today said public bus transportation system for the city and the peripheral areas will be brought under six companies.

“The city buses will be run on 22 routes of the city and adjacent areas under six companies,” he told reporters at Nagar Bhaban after a meeting of the Bus Route Rationalisation Committee formed to bring city bus service under discipline.

The six companies will be operated with six colours- pink, orange, green, purple, maroon and blue, he said, according to a DSCC press release.

“We want pay homage to Father the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by bringing discipline in the city roads within the ‘Mujib Year’ declared by the government on the occasion of birth centenary of Bangabandhu in 2020,” the mayor added.

He hoped that all the projects taken to bring discipline on the roads will be implemented in stipulated time.

Besides, Khokon said, a feasibility study will be conducted to know the possibility of launching a circular bus service on Gulistan, Sadarghat and Babubazar bridge route.

SDG Affairs Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad, Local Government Division Secretary Shafiqul Islam, Road Transport and Bridges Secretary Nazrul Islam, BRTC Chairman Farid Uddin and BRTA Chairman Shafiur Rahman joined the meeting, among others.
