Brothers demands re-match against Mohammedan

DHAKA, April 3, 2019 (BSS)- Brothers Union has given a letter to Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM), demanding a re-match against Mohammedan Sporting Club after the latter was awarded full points in a DPL game at BKSP on Tuesday.

According to the umpires and match referee, Brothers refused to play the game after they were set a revised target following a rain-interruption. The match referee Akhter Hossain Shiper, according to the bylaws of the league, they had to award the full two points to Mohammedan after Brothers failed to turn up in the scheduled time.

But Brothers claimed that they didn’t refuse to play the game. They however further claimed that the match referee and umpires created a misunderstanding as they were not discussed about the revised target.

“The normal practice is that in case of executing the D/L method, the umpires would call the captain and manager of the two teams and would tell about them the revised target. They need to make it clear how many overs will be played, how many power-plays will be there and others,” Brothers manager Amin Khan told the BSS today.

“But they didn’t call us for any discussion and set the time of the match as their wish. We were in dark completely and suddenly came to know that the match is awarded to Mohammedan.”

“That’s why we gave a letter to CCDM, explaining all the things that happened on the ground. We demanded a rematch or sharing the points since we didn’t refuse to play the game. We also demanded to investigate the matter since there was witness here who can tell the things better.”

CCDM coordinator Towhidur Rahman said that they received a letter from Brothers Union.

“However we are waiting for the report of the match referee. After getting the report we’ll act according the bylaws,” he said.
