Politics of Oikyo Front centred on sickness of Khaleda: Hasan

CHATTOGRAM, April 1, 2019 (BSS)-Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud today said that the politics of BNP-led Oikyo Front is reeling on the illness of their leader Begum Khaleda Zia.

The information minister said BNP and Oikyo Front leaders always bring to light the release of Tarek Rahman and illness of Khaleda Zia but they do not talk about the welfare of the common masses.

“The politics of BNP-led Oikyo Front is squarely centred on Begum Zia’s pain and swelling in knee and chest,” the minister said.

Hasan Mahmud urged the BNP leaders to come out of their self-centred politics and called for devoting themselves to politics considering the welfare of the country men.

The information minister was addressing a mass reception accorded to former minister and sub-sector commander of the Liberation War Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, who received recently the highest state honour Swadhinata Padak.

Referring to BNP’s demand for admitting Khaleda Zia into the United Hospital barring Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dr Hasan Mahmud said it is nothing but politics on Begum Zia’s illness and Tarek Zia’s graft cases.

He said the Awami League General Secretary was also admitted to BSMMU where world class medical facilities and treatment are ensured.

“The internationally reputed physicians particularly from India and Singapore applauded the treatment and medical care at BSMMU,” the information minister said, adding that two cabins were reserved for one month for the treatment of Begum Zia.

He said BNP did not take that opportunity with its ulterior motive to protect Begum Zia and her son Tarek Zia.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud, also publicity and publication secretary of Awami League (AL), said BNP is always out to criticize the government and urged the party not to criticize the present government unknowingly.

Listing a series of successes of development in Bangladesh, the information minister said the country has advanced a lot in all sectors. “Our GDP is higher than Pakistan; presently our per capita income is US dollar 1990 and it will be raised to US dollar 2000 very soon,” Dr Hasan said.

Presided over by acting president of Chattogram north district AL ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, MP, the reception was organized by Chattogram city, north and south district units of AL.
