Memories of martyrs of Rangpur Cantonment Gherao recalled

RANGPUR, March 28, 2019 (BSS) – Freedom fighters here today recalled the supreme sacrifice of over 400 Bangalees on this day in 1971 saying March 28, 1971 will remain as a red letter day in the history of the Bangalee nation.

On this day in 1971 hundreds of Bangalees irrespective of their caste, creed and religion laid down lives in a bid to Rangpur Cantonment Gherao with lethal and sharp weapons, spears, arrows and bows.

A memorial meeting commemorating the day was organized by ‘March 28 Cantonment Attack Smriti Sangrakhshan Parisahd’, ‘Bir Muktijoddha Tayebur Rahman High School’, Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies and other organizations at Smriti Soudha “Rakta Gaurab”

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib with Additional Deputy Commissioner Syed Enamul Kabir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Ishraat Sadiya Sumi placed wreaths.

Later, former Commander of district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad Mosaddek Hossain Bablu with freedom fighters Mostafizur Rahman, Golam Mostafa and President of city Awami League Shafiur Rahman Shafi, placed there wreaths.

Executive Engineer of Northern Electricity Supply Company Ltd (NESCO) Shariful Islam, Sadar Upazila Muktijoddha Sangshad, teachers and students of ‘Bir Muktijoddha Tayebur Rahman High School’, Jamison Nesa High School, Nisbetganj Government Primary School and other institutions placed wreaths.

Muktijoddha Sangshad Mosaddek Hossain Bablu said supreme sacrifice of 400 heroic Bangalees during the attempt of capturing Rangpur Cantonment sparked the War of Liberation in Rangpur region.
