Drive against chemical storage to be continued: Benazir

DHAKA, March 23, 2019 (BSS) – Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed today said drive against chemical storage in Old Dhaka would continue.

“Drives against illegal storage of chemicals in Old Dhaka will continue. But, we are giving assurance to the businessmen that they will not be affected unlawfully during the drive,” he also said.

He was exchanging views with Old Dhaka people on shifting chemical godwons to a safer place at Kara Convention Centre at Bakshibazar here.

The businessmen are not the opponents of law enforcers and it is possible to free Old Dhaka from chemicals with collective efforts of all concerned, he opined.

Chemical godwons are now being relocated to safer places in line with the government order, he said, adding, “Though you people (businessmen) have demanded two years of time for shifting the chemical storehouses, but we want to solve the matter within two months.”

The RAB chief said they have learnt that the businessmen are storing chemicals at different parts of the city. He has sounded a note of warning of taking stern action against such attempts.

Benazir also requested the businessmen to store chemicals in a safer way to avoid the incident like the Churihatta fire.
