Purchasing local products for flourishing SME sector stressed

RANGPUR, March 4, 2018 (BSS) – Officials at a function have called upon
the people for purchasing local products being inspired with patriotic zeal
to help flourish the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector for
accelerating national development.

They came up with the call at concluding ceremony of the seven-day
Regional SME Product Fair- 2018 organised by the SME Foundation on the Public
Library ground here on Saturday evening.

The district administration, Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(RCCI), Rangpur Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RWCCI), National
Association of Small and Cottage Industries Bangladesh (NASIB) and other SME-
related organisations extended assistance in arranging the fair.

Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed attended the function and
distributed crests and certificates among the best stall owners and local
entrepreneurs as the chief guest.

With Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman in the chair, Deputy
Director (Local Government) Ruhul Amin Mian, Acting President of district
Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, President of Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of
Commerce and Industry Rezaul Islam Litan, addressed as special guests.

Seventy-five SME institutions and female entrepreneurs had set up stalls
exhibiting locally produced leather and jute-made goods, handicrafts,
processed agro-products, electric goods, clothes, household goods, and other
products in the fair.

The speakers said the SME sector plays a vital role in creating job
opportunities for the unemployed youth workforces to improve their
livelihoods and accelerate national development.

Ruhul Amin Mian appreciated the SME Foundation to take initiatives for
expanding trade and businesses as well as flourishing the sector and creating
more jobs by arranging Regional SME Product Fairs at different regions of the
country.

Rezaul Islam Litan laid special emphasis on flourishing female
entrepreneurship in the local SME sector and production of international
standard SME products to enhance export by facing challenges of global free
trade economy system.

Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed also put importance on flourishing female
entrepreneurship in the SME sector by providing necessary assistance to them.

The chief guest said the fair successfully explored huge prospect in the
SME sector and urged the entrepreneurs for availing the assistance being
provided by the SME Foundation, banks and other financial institutions to
flourish the local SME sector.
