Govt can’t grant indemnity to Khaleda: Quamrul

DHAKA, March 01, 2018 (BSS): Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam said the government could not grant indemnity to Khaleda Zia as the court gave the verdict.

“The government has nothing to do in this regard. Khaleda Zia is in jail and if they (BNP) want to make an issue to foil the election, then we have nothing to do,” he said.

“The next election will be held in right time and the election commission will conduct the polls,” he told a preparatory meeting to celebrate the historic March 7 organized by Kamrangirchar Thana Awami League here.

Quamrul Islam said, “We have no time to see who participated in the next election and who didn’t participate.”

“Today, the historic 7th March speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has given international recognition by UNESCO,” the food minister said, adding, “Those who represent the killers of 71 will never be allowed to come to Bangladesh soil and its state power.

Among others, Dhaka Mahanagar Awami League President Abul Hasnat, General Secretary Alhaj Shah Alam Murad, Kamrangirchar Thana Awami League President M Abul Hossain Sarkar and Ward Councilor No 7 Mohammad Hossain addressed the meeting with AL leader M Shahjahan in the chair.
