Mohammedan off to winning start with Shafiul five-for
DHAKA, Mar 09, 2019 (BSS)-Fast bowler Shafiul Islam snapped up his career-best 5-32 as Mohammedan Sporting Club(MSC)recorded a three-wicket win over Gazi Group Cricketers(GGC) in their first game in the DPL at BKSP-3 ground today.
Shafiul ran through Gazi in a searing spell that left them to precarious 26-5 but thanks to Shamsul Islam’s 71 not out Gazi finally put up 182 before being all out in 45.2 overs.
Mohammedan also tasted a collapse to stand on the brink of a potential defeat. Nevertheless they eventually gunned down the total with 28 balls to spare thanks to skipper Raqibul Hasan’s 82 not out.
None of the top six batsmen of Gazi could reach double digit figure as Shaiful was at his destructive best. He took all of the five top order batsmen in his first spell, ably supported by Alauddin Babu (1-22).
As the team headed towards a shambolic total, Shamsul Islam and Touhid Tareq saved the face by sharing 101 runs for the seventh wicket stand. Tareq was dismissed for 56 after hitting four fours and one six in his 70-ball knock.
Shamsul however played till the last over to give the bowlers something to defend that looked unlikely at the first part of the innings. Shamsul’s 71 not out came off 111 balls, sending the ball three times across the rope.
Mohammad also had a disastrous start as they were reduced to 87-6 before Raqibul sailed the side home. His 124 ball-82 not out was contained with six fours and one six. Sohag Gazi was the other notable contributor with 29 runs.
