President, PM greet all on occasion of Jatiya Mou Mela-2019

DHAKA, Mar 09, 2019 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today issued separate messages greeting the concerned people on the occasion of the three-day National Bee Fair (Jatiya Mou Mela)-2019.

This year’s theme is ‘Beekeeping for higher yield, nutrition and income’.

President Abdul Hamid, in his message, said Bangladesh has now become a role model for the development of agriculture across the globe as the present government has taken agriculture-friendly policies and steps.

Self-sufficiency in grainy food production has already been achieved due to the advancement of agriculture, he said, adding that now it is necessary to ensure nutrition security for all.

“To achieve this goal, I think the theme of this year’s fair ‘Beekeeping for higher yield, nutrition and income’ is time befitting,” he said.

Honey, collected from bees is used for nutrition and medicinal purposes, he said, adding “Beekeeping also plays an important role in increasing the production of fruits and crops through pollination which facilitates the farmers to earn additional income in the crop-fields.”

As an agricultural country, he said that “we have huge potential for honey production.”

“I do believe that there will be a positive change in the rural economy through Beekeeping and with the collective efforts of government and non-government organizations, and individuals,” he added.

With the efforts of the ruling Awami League government, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said that Bangladesh is at the forefront in producing vegetables, rice, jute, potato and jackfruit, adding that the country has already become self-reliant in the grainy food production as well.

“We are now working relentlessly to ensure nutrition security after ensuring food security for all,” she added.

Bangladesh has enormous potentiality for cultivation and procurement of honey, she said, the country can earn foreign currency by increasing the production of honey along with meeting the domestic needs by utilizing this possibility.

She said, the Department of Agricultural Extension, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation, Agricultural Research Foundation, various universities and other non-government organizations are working for boosting the Beekeeping to take it to the desired level.

“We are committed to build the ‘Sonar Bangladesh’ as dreamt by the greatest Bangalee of all time and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. I hope that with the combined efforts of all, we will be able to make sustainable development in agriculture as well as honey output,” she continued.

They both wished for the overall success of Jatiya Mou Mela-2019.
