JCD, others blamed for DUCSU electoral code violations

DHAKA, March 7, 2019 (BSS) – Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) is allegedly
conducting their electioneering for the Dhaka University Central Students’
Union (DUCSU) polls violating electoral code of conduct.

Rival candidates alleged that JCD leaders today brought out a procession
as part of campaigning of their panel where a number of non-students
apparently were present.

The section 4(C) of DUCSU electoral code of conduct-2019 said, “None but
the aspirants/voters of DUCSU and hall union polls can join in campaign on
the campus area.”

JCD made their rally from Madhur canteen led by its DU unit’s president
Al Mahadee Talukder and general secretary Abul Basar Siddiki at noon. Later
they paraded the key points of campus and held rally at Aparajeya Bangla.

JCD central leaders, who are allegedly finished their studentship were
present in the campaigning supporting their Mostafizur-Anik-Sohel panel for
DUCSU poll, sources said.

JCD activists chanted slogans demanding immediate release of Khaleda Zia.

Asking the query JCD central president Rajjb Ahsan said, “As everyone has
right to access on the campus, we came with our panel. We did not distribute
leaflets.”

DUCSU and hall union polls will be placed on March 11 following a High
Court order.

Meanwhile, a DUCSU member candidate named Md Rakib Hasan Rakib, who is
supported by “Shammilita Shikkharthi Sangsad” violated the section 3(A) of
DUCSU electoral code of conduct-2019 by using motorcade in their election
campaign.

As per section 3(A) any competent contender or others on behalf of the
candidate cannot bring out a rally, showdown or procession using vehicle,
motorcycle, rickshaw, elephant or band party while conducting electioneering.

Earlier, Bangladesh Chhatra Union violated the section 3(A) of DUCSU
electoral code of conduct-2019 by using a band party in their election
campaign.

When contacted, DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani said that the code of
conduct is applicable for all.

“We will take action if anyone filled written allegation.”No aspirant
should put his candidature at risk violating the DUCSU code of conduct,” Prof
Rabbani told BSS.
