Govt cuts utility lines to 18 holdings in old Dhaka

DHAKA, March 5, 2019 (BSS) – The government taskforce today cut utility
lines to 18 holdings including seven warehouses in old part of the capital
during the ongoing drive against illegal warehouses following the devastating
Chawkbazar fire that claimed scores of lives.

The authorities has disconnected a total of 94 holdings in the last four
days while the month-long move will be continued till April 1, DSCC public
relations officer Uttam Kumar Roy told BSS.

He said all the five committees of the taskforce conducted the drives on
Maneshwar road of Hajaribagh area, Urdu road, Agamasi lane and Awlad Hossain
lane areas in the old Dhaka.

The taskforce starts its drives against illegal warehouses at 10:30 am
everyday from the Nagar Bhaban, Roy said.

On February 28, the month-long drive started following the deadly chemical-
fed fire incident that claimed more than 65 lives.

The decision of conducting the drives against chemical warehouses in Old
Dhaka was taken at a meeting of all stakeholders with Dhaka South City
Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon in the chair against the backdrop of
the Chawkbazar fire incident.
