Candidates busy campaigning for DUCSU polls

DHAKA, March 04, 2019 (BSS) – Candidates and their supporters from different platforms are now busy campaigning to bag votes in favour of their respective panels in the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union polls, slated to be held on March 11.

Dhaka University (DU) campus became vibrant with electoral activities as the aspirants began their formal electioneering for DUCSU and hall union elections amid festivity.

A total of 229 candidates are vying for the 25 posts of DUCSU as their candidature got green signal from the DU authority yesterday. The final candidates’ list is available on the DUCSU website: ducsu.du.ac.bd.

Candidates from different student bodies, alliances and also the independent candidates were seen distributing leaflets and begging for votes on the campus including the residential halls to drum up support for them.

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), pro-Awami League students’ body are moving every nook and corner of the campus as electoral campaigning. BCL President Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon who is vying for the Vice-President (VP) post today carried out campaign in the Curzon Hall area and the dormitories for his panel.

Assistant General Secretary (AGS) candidate from BCL Saddam Hossain (AGS) took part in campaign bringing out a procession from Madhur canteen.

BCL DU unit general secretary Saddam Hossain said, “We sought votes in favour of BCL panel to implement our dream to make a well-oriented campus. We also get good response from them.”

Meanwhile, an independent candidates’ platform “Shaadharon Shikkharthi Swotontro Parishad” of Bangladesh-Kuwait Moitri Hall of DU held a press conference at Madhur Canteen to announce support to independent candidate for the General Secretary (GS) post of DUCSU former journalist ARM Asifur Rahman.

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), left leaning students bodies and ‘Bangladesh Shadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad’ also kicked off their respective electoral campaigning.

“We kicked off our formal campaigning ahead of DUCSU polls. General students also extended their supports for us,” said Mostafizur Rahman,

aspirant for VP post from JCD.

While campaigning, VP aspirant from Bangladesh Chhatra Union Liton Nandi said, “We began our formal campaigning by placing wreaths on the premises of Raju sculpture. We will uphold our manifesto to turn the DU campus a democratic one.”
