Learn Bengali first: Inu

DHAKA, Feb 22, 2018(BSS) – Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu today said that only after grasping the mother tongue could one try to pick up a foreign language.

“It is possible that we need foreign languages to come to grips with the rest of the world but that would not be at the expense of the mother tongue,” he said.

The minister was speaking at a “Bangla Olympiad” organized by the Turkish Hope School at Uttara.

Quoting Guru Shodoy Dutta, he said “Be a Bengali, whole-heartedly. If you are to be a global citizen, be a Bengali, whole-heartedly first.”

Other guests at the meeting also said that it was necessary to learn foreign languages to get along with the world.
