Lawmakers laud PM’s contribution to education sector

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 27, 2019 (BSS) – Lawmakers today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has restored the lost glory of teachers by enhancing their salaries and status as well.

The country’s education sector was in crisis when Sheikh Hasina assumed office in 2008, but now the scenario has changed as the government took different steps to improve education sector, they said while taking part in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President’s address in the Jatiya Sangsad on January 30, 2019.

Md Nazrul Islam Babu of Narayanganj-2 said the government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, constructed new buildings at primary schools. He said the premier has increased the salaries of primary teachers two to three times and brought their lost glory back by restoring education-friendly atmosphere at educational institutions.

Noting that every parent is sending their children to schools, Babu said the government has been distributing books among students free of cost.

Md Abdul Majid Khan of Habiganj-2 said a revolutionary change has witnessed in the country’s education sector. He said the light of education has reached among the people living in hard-to-reach haor areas.

Shamsur Rahman Sherif of Pabna-4, Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandary of Chittagong-2, Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar of Bagerhat-3, Ashim Kumar Ukil of Netrokona-3, Pankaj Nath of Barishal-4 and Selima Ahmed of Comilla-2, among others, spoke.

The lawmakers thanked the President for giving a time befitting speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.

Earlier, they paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
