DHAKA, Feb 22, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League Publicity and Publications Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today called upon BNP to stop spreading confusions among the people over the conviction of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

“You (BNP) should face the graft case legally without creating confusions over the issue,” he told a discussion marking the 76th birth anniversary of Dr MA Wazed Miah, a noted nuclear scientist and late husband of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at Jatiya Press Club in the city.

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organised the discussion on “Amar Ekushey: the Present Context and Politics” with organizations’ advisor Lion Chittaranjan Das in the chair.

Former lawmaker and actress Sarah Begum Kabari was the chief discussant at the function while Sangskritik Jote General Secretary Arun Sarker Rana, Vice-Presidents Sheikh Md Jahangir Alam and freedom fighter Mobarak Ali Shikder, among others, addressed it.

Mahmud, also a spokesperson of AL, said if BNP again boycotts the next parliament election, it will be a suicidal decision for the party.

Now it is up to BNP to decide whether the party is important to them or the corrupt persons, he added.

The AL spokesperson said it is crystal clear that the money of Zia Orphanage Trust was withdrawn through Khaleda Zia’s signature.

BNP is out to confuse people over the issue, he said adding that BNP will not be successful to do that.

Mahmud said though the BNP leaders shed crocodile tears over the conviction of Begum Zia in the graft case, the world community did not heed that.
