Jabbar asks facebook to comply with Bangladesh law

DHAKA, Feb 27, 2018 (BSS) – Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar has asked facebook authorities to comply with the rules and regulations of Bangladesh regarding pornography, propaganda and question leak.

“Facebook has to ensure a secure platform for our citizens, our society and our country,” he said.

The minister was speaking at a meeting with facebook’s Global Policy Solution Vice President Richard Allan and Head of Policy for South Asia Ashwani Rana on the sidelines of the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Spanish city Barcelona.

Referring to the country’s law, social norms, customs, values and regulations, Jabbar told the facebook officials that “you have to run the contents and other issues in line with the law of Bangladesh.”

A ministry release today said, during the hour-long meeting, the minister also informed them that safety and security of the citizen is one of the priority agenda of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Facebook officials told the minister they would comply with the law and culture of Bangladesh for contents. They, however, highlighted their global standard in publishing contents.

Regarding the issue of pornography, the officials said they are working on removing pornography contents from their platform and it would continue.

The posts, telecommunications and information technology minister also raised the issue of opening office in Bangladesh for immediate response to trim down time consumption.

The facebook officials said they would give priority to this issue.
