BNP involved in nomination trade: land minister

SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 25, 2019 (BSS) – Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury today said BNP was involved in nomination trade in the past general election, which put the party to face a landslide defeat.

“Tareq Rahman was involved in nomination trade ahead of the past general election from London. The BNP leaders had realised the pulse of people. They knew that they would be able to win the election,” he said while addressing on the thanks giving motion on the speech of President M Abdul Hamid in the House on January 30. Blaming the BNP for its role of the past, Saifuzzaman said BNP was busy in falsehood without taking part in the 10th parliamentary elections. “Indeed, falsehood is their (BNP leaders’) nature,” he added.

Highlighting the development works carried out during the last 10 years of the government, he said the government has already brought about 70-80 percent area of the country under electricity coverage. “Now, power has become a part of life. Today, new generation does not know what is load-shedding.”

The land minister said the mega project – Padma Bridge Project – is going to be completed within the public money.

Treasury bench lawmakers Mrinal Kanti Das of Munshiganj-3, Kazi Keramat Ali of Rajbari-1, Md Aftab Uddin Sarker of Nilphamari-1, Nesar Ahmed of Maulvibazar-3 and Aroma Dutta of Reserved Seat-11, and Jatiya Party MP Md Mujibul Haque of Kishoreganj-3, among others, also spoke on the occasion.

The lawmakers thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.

Earlier, they paid a rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to establishing an independent Bangladesh.
