Psychologist Prinz signed up for Germany World Cup warm-ups

BERLIN, Feb 25, 2019 (BSS/AFP) – Germany will be boosted by the presence
of a legend in their Women’s World Cup warm-up against France on Thursday
with Birgit Prinz hired as the squad’s psychologist.

Prinz, 41, enjoyed a decorated 17-year international career, lifting the
2003 and 2007 World Cups.

A three-time world player of the year, she retired after Japan knocked out
the defending champions in the 2011 quarter-finals on home soil.

With 214 caps and 128 goals for her country, including a record-equalling
14 in the World Cup, Prinz then embarked on a second career as a
psychologist.

“After her impressive playing career Birgit has succeeded in an equally
impressive way in her second career,” said Germany coach Martina Voss-
Tecklenburg on Monday.

“She has gained huge experience as a sports psychologist over the past few
years,” Voss-Tecklenburg added.

Prinz completed her masters degree in psychology in 2010 and since 2012
has been employed by Bundesliga side Hoffenheim’s women teams.

As well as Thursday’s date with 2019 World Cup hosts France, she has been
signed up for the friendly against Sweden on April 6.
