NBR to identify defaulting TIN holders

DHAKA, Feb 24, 2019 (BSS) – National Board of Revenue (NBR) would review submission of income tax returns to identify the defaulting TIN holders.

Authorities have already directed the field level officials to look for the individuals who have TIN numbers but do not submit income tax returns.

Talking to BSS, NBR Member Md Meftha Uddin Khan today said: “We have directed field level officials to review the income tax submission to know how many TIN holders do not submit returns.”

He said there are 38 lakh TIN holders in the country, but 43 to 45 percent of them do not submit returns.

Of the defaulters, some already died while some are staying abroad and some collected TIN for buying car or home, he said, adding there are also few people who earlier submitted income tax returns but they do not do it now.

“With this initiative, we would try to encourage the eligible people to submit return, as submission of income tax return is a moral duty for a citizen,” added the NBR member.
