People throng to Amar Ekushey book fair

DHAKA, Feb 19, 2019 (BSS) – People of all strata thronged to the Book Fair on the premises of Bangla Academy and at the Suhrawardy Udyan today with the spirit of Amar Ekushey ahead of the ‘Shaheed Dibash’ and the International Mother Language Day on February 21.

The month-long book fair that began February 1 drew huge crowds soaring sales of books on different genres of literature and other areas of knowledge.

The stall attendants were seen busy dealing with the visitors and big smiles flashed on the face of the publishers as the crowds thronged different stalls and pavilions.

The number of arrival of new books was recorded at 143 today raising the total number of new books stood at 2,569 this year.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader visited the ‘Jubo Jagaron’ stall of Awami Jubo League and ‘Matribhumi’ of Bangladesh Chhatra League on the fairground.

Jubo League Chairman Omar Farouq Chowdhury and its General Secretary Harunur Rashid accompanied the minister during his visit.

A discussion titled ‘Liberation War Spirit in Bangladesh’s Rhyme Literature’ was held at the main stage in the fair at 4 pm. Sujan Barua presented a keynote paper with Professor Syed Mohammad Shahed in the chair.

Alam Talukder, Aslam Sani, Lutfar Rahman Ritan, Amirul Islam and Anjir Litan took part in the discussion.
