SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 19, 2019 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and
Cooperative Minister M Tazul Islam today said now country’s 87 per cent people
are under the coverage of safe drinking water.
“Country’s 87 per cent or a total of 13 crore 92 lakh people are now under the
coverage of the safe and fresh drinking water facilities,” the minister said
this while responding to a starred question placed by treasury bench lawmaker
M Anwarul Azim Anar of Jenaidah-4 in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin
Chaudhury in the chair.
Besides, 99 per cent people are now in the country under basic sanitation
coverage.
Of them, 61 per cent are getting improved latrine facilities and remaining 28
per cent using joint latrine and 10 per cent are using inferior latrine
facilities, the minister noted.
According to the statics by the WHO/UNICEF and Joint Monitoring Programme
(JMP), country’s 9 crore 76 lakh people are getting the improved latrine
facilities.
