People throng book fair ignoring gloomy weather

DHAKA, Feb 17, 2019 (BSS) – The 17th day of the month-long Ekushey book fair today experienced a heavy shower and clouds hovering in the sky all-daylong, but the circumstances did not bar huge booklovers from attending the fair.

Ignoring the gloomy weather and with huge enthusiasm and curiosity, thousands of visitors of all ages flocked to different stalls and pavilions to find out books of their beloved writers.

Some attendants in different stalls, however, were seen to manage rearranging books as heavy rain in the morning damaged thousands of books at the Ekushey book fair.

A total of 141 new books hit the fair today raising the total number 2,619. Besides, ‘Sporsho’ has published eight Braille books this year for the visually impaired people.

A discussion titled ‘Syed Shamsul Haque: paying homage” was held at the main stage in the fairground while Khaled Hossain presented a keynote paper on the topic.

Poet Manjure Mawla presided over the discussion attended by, among others, Mafidul Haque, Asad Mannan, Shihab Sarker and Anisul Haque.

Besides, a 10-day photo exhibition will begin tomorrow on the second floor of the Dr Muhammad Enamul Haque Bhaban at Bangla Academy that will remain open from 3 pm to 9 pm every day.
