Palak invites Britain’s investments in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Feb 14, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak has invited Britain’s
digital investors in Bangladesh.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has transformed Bangladesh into a booming
ICT market and the UK must invest in it”, he added.

Palak was addressing at an event at the House of Lords recently where
the senior members of UK House of Lords and Commons were present, said a high
commission release received here today.

ICT State Minister made a two-day visit to the UK on February 11-12 to
promote Bangladesh’s public sector, B2B and public-private sector cooperation
with the UK.

During the visit, he met senior members of Conservatives and Labour at
the House of Lords and called upon the UK to take a fresh look on Bangladesh
for outsourcing UK’s digital products in Bangladesh especially in 12 hi-tech
parks.

The event is hosted by the Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Saida
Muna Tasneem who recalled the historic visit of Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the UK on January 8, 1972 and reaffirmed
her interests to work with UK Parliament in celebrating 50 years of
Bangladesh-UK relations.

While addressing the event, the state minister said Bangladesh under the
guidance of Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed is
prioritising the skilling of a young generation IT experts to mobile apps,
ai, cyber security, cloud technology and block chains.

The House of Lords event was attended by senior members of Conservatives
including the Rt Hon the Lord Howell of Guildford, Chairman of International
Relations Committee of House of Lords, Baroness Jenkin of Kennington of
Intergenerational Fairness and Provision Committee, John Howell MP of Justice
Committee, Pauline Latham MP of International Development Select Committee,
Paul Scully MP, Chair, APPG on Curry Catering Industry and Vice Chair of APPG
on Bangladesh.

Myles Stacey, Director of Outreach of Conservative Central Committee was
also present in the meeting. The event was also attended by senior Labour
members including the Rt. Hon. Stephen Timms MP, former Chief Secretary to
the Treasury and current member of Brexit Select Committee and Rushanara Ali
MP, UK PM’s Trade Envoy to Bangladesh. Top UK government officials including
Jason Cummings, Political Adviser to the UK Prime Minister Theresa May and
Mario Creatura, Special Adviser (Digital) to the UK PM, among others, were
present on the occasion.

A large ICT delegation accompanying the Sate Minister as well as leading
IT Companies and British Computing Society attended the event.

ICT Minister also had a courtesy meeting with Chris Heaton-Harris, MP,
Parliamentary Under Secretary for Brexit and Chair of All Party Parliamentary
Group on Sports to discuss the possible Parliamentary friendship cricket
match between Bangladesh and the UK on the sidelines of the Cricket World Cup
(CWC) 2019. Chris Heaton-Harris MP welcomed the proposal and informed that
they were going to organise an inter-parliamentary cricket tournament during
the CWC 2019.
