Govt. targets US$ 711 million agri-products export
this fiscal
SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 12, 2019 (BSS) – Commerce
Minister Tipu Munshi today said Bangladesh is now
exporting agricultural products to 121 countries
worth about US $ 673.70 million and has targeted to
earn US$ 711 million in current fiscal.
The government has undertaken new plan to increase
export of agricultural products, he said while
replying to a question from treasury bench member
Bazlul Haque Harun in the Jatiya Sangsad today.
The minister informed the House that the government
has declared agriculture as a priority sector
according to the existing export policy.
He said necessary activities were underway as per
the ‘Firm to Market’ policy to increase export of
agricultural products following Good Agriculture
Practice (GAP).
Besides, the government would take different
research programmes aimed at diversification of
agricultural products, the minister said.
He said the government declared Agro and Agro-
Processing Product as ‘Product of the Year 2019’ for
encouraging the export.
The government earned US$ 673.70 million by
exporting agricultural products during the financial
year 2017-18, he said.
