Poll for women reserved seats in JS on March 4

DHAKA, Feb 03, 2019 (BSS) – The election for reserved women seats of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad will be held on March 4.

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed announced the election schedule at a press conference at Nirbachan Bhaban here this evening.

As per the schedule, the last date for submission of nomination paper is February 11 next and the scrutiny of nomination paper is on February 12. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is February 16.

According to the 11th parliamentary poll result, 43 seats will be reserved for Awami League while four for the Jatiya Party, one for BNP and one for Workers Party in the reserved women seats, he informed.

Independent and other candidates will be able to contest for one seat against three. He also said if the BNP takes oath, they will be able to submit their candidature otherwise their reserved seats will remain postponed.

According to the EC law, the number of reserved seats for women is 50. There is no fixed constituency for them.

In this case, the women’s seats are distributed on the basis of the seats won by the party or the alliances.

The Election Commission has also decided that the upcoming Upazila Parishad Election will be held in five phases while the first phase of the poll will be started at 87 upazilas under four districts on March 10.

The last date for submission of nomination paper is February 11 while the withdrawal of the candidature is February 19.
