ADB country director meets railway minister

DHAKA, Feb 3, 2019 (BSS) – Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Director Manmohan Prakash today met Railway Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan at his Railway Bhaban office.

During the meeting, they discussed ongoing projects financed by ADB, especially the Dohahazari-Cox’s Bazar-Ramu project, Akhaura-Laksam Dual Gauge railway project and the purchase of broad gauge coaches.

“The railways will be converted into a broad gauge line gradually and will also be restarted with closed connectivity with India…. Our honorable Prime Minister is eager to construct the rail line up to Banglabandha as it will allow passengers to visit Shiliguri,” an official press release quoted him as saying while speaking to journalists.

The country director discussed about ADB’s interest in the construction of new railway lines from Panchagarh to Banglabandha. In addition, he expressed interest in making ICD in Ishwardi and Dhirasram railway station of Gazipur.

The secretary and the director general of Bangladesh Railway were also present, among others, at the meeting.
