Two-day national poetry festival starts

DHAKA, Feb 1, 2019 (BSS) – A two-day national poetry festival titled
‘Bangalir Joy Kabitar Joy’ started today on the Dhaka University (DU) Central
Library premises.

Jatiyo Kabita Utsab presidium member eminent poet Asad Chowdhury
inaugurated the 33rd festival organised by Jatiyo Kobita Parishad.

The festival began with the placing of wreaths at the graves of the
national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, Patua Kamrul
Hassan and at the pavement of the central Shaheed Minar.

Jatiyo Kobita Parishad president Dr Mohammad Samad presided over the
inaugural event.

The two-day festival is featuring elaborate programmes, including
recitation of poems, songs on Ekushey February, seminars, discussions and
exhibitions on poets and poetry.

This time the festival was dedicated to martyred student leaders –
Amanullah Mohammad Asaduzzaman popularly known as ‘Shaheed Asad’, Shaheed
Sergeant Zahurul Haq, Shaheed Dr Shamsuzzoha and Shaheed Motiur Rahman.

Poets from India, Turkey, the United Kingdom, China, Sri Lanka, Spain,
Uruguay, Congo and Nepal are participating in the festival.

Apart from this, a number of local poets are participating in the event
with their poems.
