DHAKA, Jan 30, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) has decided to give party nomination only to the post of chairman in the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections.
“AL Local Government Nomination Board has decided to give nomination to only chairman post in the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections. The board will not give party nomination to the vice-chairman and women vice-chairman posts in the polls,” AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader said in statement today.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said the decision has been taken as per the directives of the AL president and the nomination board president Sheikh Hasina.
He urged the presidents and general secretaries of the respective district and upazila units of AL to send a candidate list for the chairman post having a single name or a three-member panel with their signatures to AL president’s political office in the city’s Dhanmondi area by February 3.
Quader also urged the AL leaders to prepare the candidate list unanimously after consulting with the leaders of district, upazila and union units of the party.
He said a photocopy of the National Identity card of the respective candidate must be attached to the list.
