Compatible RCC formed for RMG safety: Tipu Munshi

DHAKA, Jan 24, 2019 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today said the
government has formed a compatible Remediation Coordination Cell (RCC) to
keep the country’s readymade garment factories safe and worker-friendly.

“Inspection of all factories has been completed, and after the Alliance
and Accord, RCC is assigned to work for ensuring factory safety and
environment,” he added.

The commerce minister told newsmen after a meeting with European Union
(EU) Ambassador in Dhaka Rensje Teerink at his secretariat office.

He said the RCC has been formed with skilled and experienced manpower
and the buyers of country’s apparel industry are satisfied with it.

Urging EU to come up with more investments, Tipu Munshi said the
government has offered special facilities for foreign investment in 100
special economic zones declared by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“EU businessmen would be benefited by investing here taking the
opportunity of the prevailing congenial environment for foreign investment,”
opined the minister.

Bangladesh is now exporting different products worth $ 21 billion to EU
markets.

EU Ambassador said the current EU-Bangladesh trade is possible to
expand further.

Mentioning that EU businessmen are keen to invest here, Rensje Teerink
said Dhaka has to ease some barriers which is still creating difficulties for
investment.

The Ambassador also lauded Bangladesh RMG industry and said labourers
are working in a safe environment.

Commerce Secretary M Mofizul Islam, additional secretaries Tapan Kanti
Ghose, M Shafikul Islam and Badrul Ahsan Babul and officials concerned were
present.
