Khulna Titans finally return winning streak in BPL

DHAKA, Jan 23, 2019 (BSS) – Mohammad Nawaz’s fighting half century went in vain as Khulna Titans finally come to winning streak notching up their second win in the Bangladesh Premier League T20 beating Sylhet Sixers by 21 runs in the 28th match of the tournament held on Wednesday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.

Chasing a winning target of 171 runs set by Khulna, Sylhet found the chase stiff and eventually fell short as they scored 149 for 7 from their stipulated 20 overs.

Sylhet lost four wickets inside nine overs but Nawaz and Pooran kept the Sylhet’s wicket board tricking.

The left handed batsman Nawaz, after picking up two wickets in the first innings, also shine with bat as he composed a responsible 34-ball off 54-run hitting two fours and four sixes and during the process he shared 119-run for the fifth wicket stand with Nicholas Pooran who chipped away 21-ballof 28 runs with three boundaries and one over boundary before both the batsmen lost their wickets in a crucial moments.

Afif Hossain (29) and Sabbir Rahman (13) were the other notable scorers for Sylhet. Taijul Islam was the most successful bowler as he grabbed three Sylhet’s wickets giving away 32 runs.

Earlier, Khulna Titans, rode on a 73-run opening stand by Brendan Taylor and Junaid Siddique, scored a challenging total of 170 for 9 from their allotted 20 overs after they were invited to bat first by Sylhet Sixers.

The Zimbabwean recruit wicket keeper batsman Taylor top scored with 31-ball off 48 runs laced with four boundaries and two over boundaries while his partner Junaid Siddique smashed 23-ball off 33 runs with the help of six boundaries both before the victim of Alok Kapali.

After the departure of two openers, Khulna fumble in the middle as Kapali continued to strike picking up wickets. He grabbed four wickets conceding 22 runs but could not refrain Khulna from post a big target.

Later, David Wiese made a quick fire 25-ball off 38 runs helped Khulna to set up a challenging target for Sylhet Sixers.

Apart from Kapali’s four wickets, Mohammad Nawaz and pacer Taskin Ahmed shared four Khulna’s wickets conceding 26 and 35 runs respectively.
