Philippines keen to import pharmaceuticals: Tipu

DHAKA, Jan 23, 2019 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today said the Philippines are keen to import pharmaceuticals from Bangladesh.

He revealed it after a meeting with the Philippines Ambassador to Bangladesh Vicente Vivencio T Bandillo at his secretariat office, said a ministry release.

“Right at this moment, the export volume of Bangladeshi pharmaceuticals has stood worth $ 7 million, but Dhaka has the enormous potentiality to boost the exports in this sector and the government would take necessary measures to this end,” said the commerce minister.

The ambassador also evinced interest to invest in the fields of electrical appliances, agro-food processing and leather in Bangladesh, he added.

In fiscal 2017-18, Bangladesh exported to the Philippines products worth $ 47.04 million against the import of worth $ 8.07 million.

“Both the countries are eager to boost bilateral trade,” said the commerce minister.

Commerce Secretary M Mofizul Islam was also present.
