KOICA to pursue giant Korean companies to invest in BD

DHAKA, Jan 21, 2019 (BSS) – Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today said
the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) President Lee Mikyung
would convince the giant Korean companies like LG, Daewoo, Hyundai and
Samsung to invest in Bangladesh.

“She (KOICA President) has assured me that after going back to Korea, she
will convince giant companies to invest in Bangladesh,”

The Finance Minister was talking to reporters at his ERD office in the
city this evening after a high-level delegation of KOICA, led by its

Kamal said since Bangladesh is an ideal place for making investment, the
KOICA President would be working to showcase Bangladesh and thus take
initiative to bring those large companies here.

Asked about the Rohingya issue, AHM Mustafa Kamal, commonly known as Lotus
Kamal, said the KOICA delegation highly praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
for her generosity and humanity as she has given shelter to the forcibly
displaced Rohingyas.

“The KOICA President will also take the Rohingya issue to the Korean
government on how to work on the issue with the Bangladesh government,” added
the Minister.

Citing the traffic congestion in the capital, Lee said Korea also
experienced similar problem in their early days.

“But, this traffic problem is manageable and the KOICA President will
discuss the issue with their experts in Korea on how to support Bangladesh in
this regard,” Kamal added.

The Finance Minister said since country’s partnership with KOICA in 1993,
the Korean agency has already financed some 24 projects in Bangladesh
involving $57million.

Besides, there are also eight ongoing projects financed by KOREA with an
outlay of $55 million mostly in capacity building in health, environment and
ICT sector.
